Statistical Investigation

Task Description: Today I have completed my task I had to create a focus topic that i had to focus on for a good amount of weeks. The title of my topic was Which sport is the most popular in room 4. I then had to start planning on how i would figure out how to get the answer to my title my plan was to go around my classroom and ask people what their favourite sport is, after collecting all the data i needed i then put it into a bar graph which is more easier to calculate in. after doing that i then had to analyse all of the data that i have collected, using the Mean,Median,Mode and range, after completing all of this I got the chance to present it to our class.

Maya’s Attic

Maya clutched the old, bumpy notebook, its pages feeling like they held secret messages just for her. Outside, the rain banged against the attic window, like a drumbeat matching her fast-beating heart. A faded picture fell out: a serious lady with eyes that looked both sad and a little bit sneaky. The words underneath said, “Elara, the Stargazer.” Maya always felt drawn to the attic, like something magical was hiding in the dusty air. Now, with the notebook in her hands and Elara staring right at her, she knew she was about to find out something way more amazing than she ever thought possible.

The writing in the notebook seemed to wiggle and move on the yellowed paper, telling stories about hidden stars and secret futures. Elara wrote about a special key, a lost thing that could unlock the whole night sky. Maya’s breath caught in her throat. Could it be true? A key to the stars? The attic, which was just a place for old junk, suddenly felt like a doorway. The creaky floor sounded like a ship sailing through time, and the rain outside was like a huge space storm. Maya felt a rush of excitement like she was meant to do this. She wasn’t just reading a story; she was about to be part of it.

Vocabulary:

  1. What does the word “enigmatic” mean to describe Elara’s gaze? Can you think of another word that means something similar? It means It’s difficult to understand.

  1. What does “artifact” mean in the phrase “lost artifact”? Can you think of other examples of artifacts? An object made by a human

Comprehension:

  1. Where did Maya find the journal and photograph? Why was this location significant? Up in the attic which she thought she was attached too.

  1. What did Elara’s journal say the “celestial key” could do? It could lead to a portal, like a different dimension

Inference:

  1. Why do you think Maya felt a “strange pull” towards the attic even before she found the journal? What clues in the text suggest this? Because she had always felt attached to the attic and was interested.

  1. Why do you think the author compared the attic to a “portal” and the floorboards to a “ship”? What does this tell us about how Maya’s perception of the attic changes? This tells us that Maya thinks that the attic leads to the portal and the floorboards are the ship of something and is taking her to a different dimension.

Connecting to the Wider World:

  1. If you could unlock the night sky like Elara’s journal suggests, what mysteries of the universe would you want to explore? What do you already know about the stars and planets that make you curious? I would want to take a look at planets like Mars Mercury and Jupiter.

New Zealand – Explanation Writing

Task Description: Today I have completed my task for writing, for this task I had to write an essay about New Zealand (Aotearoa) I had to write about New Zealand History, Tourism, and Sports.

New Zealand (also known as Aotearoa) is a small island nation located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. With a population of just under 5 million people, it is a perfect place to live. This country has managed to preserve its unique cultural heritage while embracing the modern world. This essay will discuss the history, tourism, and sports sectors of Aotearoa.

History: The history of New Zealand holds a lot of impact that can be spread around the world like the Treaty of Waitangi. The Treaty of Waitangi was founded in 1840, it was signed because the Māori people did not want the British to take over their land, this incident was caused by none other than Captain James Cook. Another part of New Zealand history is the Māori new year. This is a time to celebrate Matariki. Matariki is all about the nine stars that are up in the sky which all have a meaning in the Māori culture. One of their other main parts of their history is their language (te reo Māori). The Māori culture has a unique sound of language which can be heard during Māori performances. The haka is the Māori dance which is usually performed at sport events, weddings, and many other special occasions.

Tourism: In New Zealand there are a lot of things to take a look at, but one of the places you’ll go to is the sky tower which is located in Auckland. This is A place that brings New Zealand to interest, the sky tower is one of the tallest buildings in the world, that celebrates cool events like Christmas, and the best out of all new years, these events that the sky tower pulls off brings joy to our country. One of the other things that you can explore is the cultural food that brings New Zealand joy, and shows them how good New Zealand food could be. Another thing to explore in New Zealand is their traditional Maori culture, you can explore this at a marae or go to a person who has been around in New Zealand for a number of years. The last thing to explore is the best theme park in New Zealand which is called Rainbows end. This theme park brings joy to your faces and explains how our rides are fun but also scary. Did you know rainbows ends are closed for a day because of an incident.

Sports: Sports is the way of saying that’s New Zealand’s pride. New Zealand competes in a range of different sporting events, such as Rugby, Rippa Rugby, Netball, and many other more. In conclusion, this essay has examined New Zealand, it’s history, with important things like the Treaty of Waitangi and Matariki; its awesome tourist spots, like the Sky Tower and trying hangi food; and its super strong sports teams, like the All Blacks and Silver Ferns.
